Scorsese frustrated with Hollywood?

I read an interesting story on yahoo about how director Martin Scorsese is going to take a "break" from Hollywood. The story goes on to basically say that the bigger the budget, the less creative freedom the directors have over the film production.

If you try to read between the lines, you might see that it suggests that those with the money to finance the film productions (the studios) are dictating the kinds of movie that can be made and how they are made.

So, if you are in film school now and hoping to have a good deal of creative control over films when you get to be a big time film maker, think again. Perhaps independent films are the way to go?

You can read the whole story here.

Your site is so helpful!!!!! Love it!!!

I've always wanted to work with TV shows, like smallville and prison break, then become a TV producer. Are TV shows the same as film though? Do you go to film school to learn how to work on TV shows?

I'd appreciate it so much if u could reply back! :) Once again, really love your site...and the tips.

Thanks for the compliment!

The production processes for television shows and films have many similarities and differences. The primary difference is the amount of time that is available to finish a project. Television shows work on very tight deadlines and films allow more flexibility in this area, and generally, films have larger budgets as well.

Going to a film school can definitely help you learn the production processes for making a television show, because the technical aspects are very similar in film and TV both.

Good luck on your journey!
